Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to check their bill and test for a leak. The site aims to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. It has not been independently audited, so we do not claim that it does.

What we have done

  • Every page and tool works with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline.
  • Text and background colours were measured for contrast, and every text pair meets at least 4.5 to 1.
  • Form fields have visible labels, and errors say what went wrong and how to fix it.
  • Results and timers that change on screen are also given as text for screen readers.
  • If your device asks for reduced motion, the moving meter drawing, rolling numbers and spinning star all stay still.
  • Pages reflow on small screens and when text is enlarged, without scrolling sideways.
  • No time limits: the meter test timer is only a reminder, and your readings are kept until you clear them.

Known limitations

  • The site has not yet been tested with every combination of screen reader and browser.
  • The drawing of a meter on the home page is decorative. Its live litres figure is described in the text beside it, but it is not announced as it changes.
  • Some links go to other organisations' websites, whose accessibility we do not control.
